Fellow members and guests of the American Society of Parasitologists, it is with great pleasure that I introduce the 2018 recipient of the Henry Baldwin Ward medal, Dr. Pieter Johnson. Although I will only be able to provide a few highlights here, Pieter has contributed significantly to the field of parasitology to attain a position of leadership, particularly within parasite ecology, through his remarkable productivity, diverse range of study, and outreach efforts to engage the public and future generations of scientists. I have known Pieter for about a decade now, and his dedication, hard work, and tenacity in pursuing questions related to the study of parasites have provided memorable conversations and exciting new directions, with no doubt much more to come.
