Valued ASP members, distinguished guests … and Ash. Today I would like to introduce a man that I have great respect for, as both a scientist and a person. I'd like to, but Julian hasn't returned any of my calls. Instead, it gives me only slightly less pleasure to introduce John Hawdon, our current president.
As I'm certain you are aware, John was recently awarded the Henry Baldwin Ward medal. As a result, we already have had the opportunity to learn more about John than we cared to—both from Kirsten Jensen's eloquent introduction and from the finer details provided by John himself.
From Kirsten, we learned of John's average beginnings as an instructor at the Median School of Allied Health Careers and his research tech position with Lewis Jacobson studying Caenorhabditis, where the valuable hands-on experience ultimately allowed him to find a home in Gerhard Schad's lab.
