It is a great and unexpected honor to be given the Clark P. Read Mentor Award from the American Society of Parasitologists. I am humbled beyond measure by this recognition and am deeply grateful to my friend Judy Sakanari for her initiative in promoting me for this award and to my friend Charles Mackenzie for preparing the introductory presentation. I am equally indebted to the students and colleagues who supported me in the process. I am proud to say that Dr. Read's work provided major inspiration for me and my colleagues as we pursued our research on the biology of parasitic helminths with an eye toward finding better ways to remove them from their hosts. This fundamental scientific connection to the person for whom the award is named heightens my sense of gratitude and humility.
