It is my privilege to introduce 2022 New Investigator Award recipient Tyler Achatz. I will call him by first name because I have known him for many years and spent countless hours working with him side-by-side in the field, in the laboratory, and in front of the computer.

Just a little bit of history. I believe in 2013, among applicants for Master's program in my department, appeared the name Tyler Achatz. He was apparently interested in diseases and parasites. I had a fine conversation with the man. He sounded like a promising student, but he was absolutely adamant about doing ecology. The only ecological project I had at the time was a study of frog diseases and parasites funded by the North Dakota Fish and Game, but we had already committed that spot to another applicant.
