Members of the American Society of Parasitologists, it is my pleasure and honor to introduce Dr. Tamara J. Cook, Professor of Biological Sciences at Sam Houston State University, as the 2022–2023 President of the American Society of Parasitologists. Tami has led our Society in this capacity over the past 12 months with clarity, patience, and level-headedness. These characteristics have served her well, not only as the president of our Society, but throughout her career as a professor, mentor, and friend.
Tami grew up with humble roots as a small-town girl from Ainsworth, Nebraska. She attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the late 1980s. It was here where Tami discovered her interest in biology. In 1987, like many North American parasitologists who end up at UNL, Tami was enrolled in Dr. John Janovy Jr.’s freshman zoology class.
