It is my pleasure to introduce the American Society of Parasitologists’ 2023 Ashton Cuckler New Investigator Award recipient, Dr. James P. Bernot. The award is given to those who have a highly accomplished research record during and immediately after their graduate studies. Dr. Bernot earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees at the University of Connecticut and conducted research on cestodes of sharks under the direction of Dr. Janine Caira. He then completed his Ph.D. in Genomics and Bioinformatics on parasitic copepods under Dr. Keith Crandall. He is now working with Dr. Anna Phillips as an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and recently had visiting fellowships at the Senckenberg German Center for Marine Biodiversity Research and the Natural History Museum, London.
