Thank you, Herman, for that thoughtful introduction. Herman and I have known one another for so long that he had a lot of material. I was a little concerned about how he might use some of it. On the auspicious occasion of the 100th anniversary of the American Society of Parasitologists (ASP), I first want to thank the membership and recognize that as a volunteer society, none of it would have been possible without members volunteering their time and effort. I further thank Valerie McKenzie and the local organizing committee here in Denver for staging a spectacular meeting fitting for the occasion.
