This book is about fasciolosis (= fascioliasis). It focuses entirely on Fasciola hepatica and F. gigantica, mostly the former. There are 15 chapters, including 525 pages of text and a 17 page index. Most of the chapters are multi-authored. The line drawings and graphic material are simple and easily understood. There are two color plates, but remarkably few micrographs, even in the chapter dealing with the pathology of the disease.

The introductory chapter presents a brief historical perspective on F. hepatica. Even though several details of the life cycle remained unknown for many years, this is the first life cycle of a trematode to be elucidated, separately by Leuckart and Thomas in 1881–82.
