On 18 June 1999 Dr. Richard G. Strout, Professor Emeritus of Animal and Nutritional Sciences at the University of New Hampshire, passed away after a brief struggle with cancer. He was born 11 November 1927 in Auburn, Maine and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, enlisting immediately following graduation from high school at age 17. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1950 with a B.S. in Poultry Science and received an M.S. in Poultry Science at the University of New Hampshire in 1954. He then joined the faculty at New Hampshire as an Instructor and Poultry Extension Specialist for several years before taking a leave of absence to complete his Ph.D. in Zoology (Parasitology) under the direction of Dr. Wilbur Bullock in 1961.
