This book is a good idea, nicely conceived, and well executed. It includes a series of 50 ‘experiments,’ or exercises, divided into 7 categories: Observational Exercises on Parasites, Ecology, Physiology and Biochemistry, Pathology and Immunology, Chemotherapy, Molecular Parasitology, and Behavior. As much as possible, the exercises are simple and designed for completion within a normal laboratory period. Each description includes a statement on the aims and objectives, an introduction, a comprehensive list of equipment and supplies that are required, safety requirements, instructions for staff and another for students, ideas for further exploration, and a list of appropriate references so that students may do some extra reading in preparation for the laboratory.
