It is indeed an honor to introduce the 2003 Clark P. Read Mentor Award recipient. Many of you are familiar with the “renaissance” nature of Professor John Janovy, Jr. Dr. Janovy has conducted biological research in areas ranging from the physiology of Leishmania, to fish ecological parasitology, to the biology of insect gregarines. John Janovy is equally well known as an author of some outstanding books on natural history and other subjects. John Janovy is an artist, teacher, and occasional administrator. He is a parent and a husband. But today we are here to honor him for what has been most important to a number of us in this room, his excellence as an academic mentor.
