President Overstreet, Dr. Desser, Dr. Caira, fellow members of the Society, distinguished colleagues, and friends. I am truly humbled to be standing before you accepting the Henry Baldwin Ward Medal.
The American Society of Parasitologists is my scientific home, and I consider the members of our Society as my closest professional colleagues. To receive such an award from my peers is a tremendous honor and is without doubt the most exciting event in my professional life. Perhaps it is because I count many of you first as friends that this award is particularly special to me, and I will always cherish it.
Sherwin has been kind enough to introduce you to some of my formative years and I appreciate the good taste he has shown by not using all of the photographs that might have been available to him.
