Tangled Trees: Phylogeny, Cospeciation, and Coevolution, edited by R.D.M. Page. The University of Chicago Press, Chicago, Illinois. 2003. 378 p. $28.00. ISBN 0-226-64467-7.
This book, edited by Dr. Roderic Page, is a collection of 13 chapters dealing with a variety of theoretical and methodological components of phylogeny, cospeciation, and coevolution. These chapters provide an excellent review of coevolutionary studies and present several detailed examples for those actively performing research in field of systematics. Page does a remarkable job of bringing together 24 contributors from throughout the world and producing a very cohesive and insightful tome. After a well-written introduction setting the general framework for this book, 4 chapters are devoted to methodology, including topics such as: parsimony analysis for coevolving species, the “jungles” method for host-parasite phylogeny reconciliation, statistical perspectives of examining host-parasite coevolution, and a population genetics approach to explaining coevolutionary patterns. These 4 chapters do a nice job...
