President Christensen, Dr. Robbins, Dr. Caira, ASP members, colleagues, and friends, this is a true honor. In looking through the list of former recipients of this medal, it appears that the great tick researcher, Harry Hoogstraal, has been the only arthropod ectoparasitologist to previously receive this accolade. However, our current President, Bruce Christensen, was awarded the Henry Baldwin Ward medal in 1987 in recognition of his important work on arthropod-borne parasites. I met Harry Hoogstraal at my first ASP meeting in 1985 when he was society President, after we had been corresponding about some Indonesian ticks that I had collected. Harry was always the epitome of courtesy and encouragement to me throughout our correspondence and at that ASP meeting in Athens, Georgia.
