When Dr. Dennis Minchella asked me to present the introduction to this year's presidential address, I was honored—as would be expected for a former student—and I eagerly accepted. However, as the time has drawn near, I have grown more and more apprehensive. You see, last year, Dr. Nappi had nothing but glowing compliments and flowing accolades to share during his introduction of past president Dr. Bruce Christensen. But this year, it falls to me to introduce Dennis's presidential address and I've got to say, Dennis, sir: I know Bruce Christensen, and you're no Bruce Christensen.

That having been said, though, Dennis certainly seems to have attained a sort of celebrity status in the Society, and it has become very evident during the early stages of this 80th meeting of the Society that it will be “The Year of Dennis.” Unfortunately, this has very little to do with the presidency of...
