Dr. Mark C. Healey died peacefully at his home on 10 December 2007, surrounded by his immediate family. He was 60 years old and had been battling pancreatic cancer for nearly 3 years. With his passing, parasitology has lost a distinguished researcher, teacher, and administrator. Mark was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Calvin E. and Frances M. Healey on 7 March 1947. He attended the local public schools and graduated from Granger High School in 1965. He spent 6 years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Mark had an interest in science from an early age, and believed in scientific inquiry as the best pursuit of knowledge and truth. In 1971, he received a B.S. degree in biology magna cum laude from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where he then entered a Master's program.
