The transition to this new fiscal and membership year for CPNP finds our organization with a “lot of plates in the air.” Once again, a successful Annual Meeting seems to have infused a great deal of energy, enthusiasm and momentum into our membership and into our committees.

As Jerry McKee mentioned in his June letter and in the article in this edition of MHC, a flurry of activity has developed surrounding the definition/identification of next steps for CPNP to pursue to obtain a mechanism for payment for pharmacist services. That flurry continues, and it may become a blizzard. CPNP has formed a Comprehensive Medication Management Reimbursement (CMMR) Work Group to coordinate efforts of various committees and member groups within CPNP in this effort. This group will work closely with the Legislative Committee, and other groups to ensure that our efforts are well-focused as we move forward

Additionally, we are focusing attention on our 3 major priorities for the coming year:

  1. Establishing/advancing relationships with other organizations

  2. Maximizing visibility of existing resources provided by CPNP

  3. Nurturing a volunteerism culture that encourages development of new leaders

I'll be focusing on each of these priorities in more detail in upcoming messages in the Mental Health Clinician. Committees and Editorial Boards are already at work. Word is that the Programming Committee has already identified exciting topics for our next Annual Meeting in April of 2013 at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The editorial board for Mental Health Clinician is pushing forward in the evolution of Mental Health Clinician to an open submission, peer-reviewed publication. The BCPP Examination Review and Recertification Course Editorial Board is already developing the next edition of this product which will appear in 2014. Our new Recertification Education Editorial Board has begun identifying topics, literature analysis articles, and potential speakers for next year's products.

This is also a time of transition to a new Board of Directors for CPNP as some of our board members “retire.” Your CPNP Board of Directors for the 2012–2013 year is:

  • President: Rex Lott, PharmD, BCPP

  • President-Elect: Julie Dopheide, PharmD, BCPP

  • Past President: Jerry McKee, PharmD, M.S., BCPP

  • Secretary: Ellie Elliott, PharmD, BCPP

  • Treasurer: Steve Burghart, DPh, MBA, BCPP

  • Member-At-Large: Megan Ehret, PharmD, BCPP

  • Member-At-Large: Troy Moore, PharmD, M.S., BCPP

  • Advisory Appointee: Gary Levin, PharmD, BCPP, FCCP

Retiring Board members, Carol Ott, PharmD, BCPP, Jerry Overman, PharmD, BCPP, and Steve Stoner, PharmD, BCPP have each given countless hours of their time and energy as well as huge amounts of their wisdom to the Board during their tenures. Those of us who are following owe them a huge “Thank You” for their leadership and guidance. As has been said many times, CPNP is a volunteer-driven organization and Carol, Jerry and Steve have contributed substantially to this organization.

I am excited to be involved with our organization and I'm honored that I've been asked to serve in a leadership position. I remember clearly when Nominating Committee Chair Ann Richards called to tell me that I had been elected to serve as President. I commented that I was honored and hoped I could do a good job. Ann's response was that “it's a team effort”. In addition to relieving some anxiety, her comment also reminded me that CPNP, as a whole, is truly a team. Each of our members has an important role in the success of our organization. My experiences working with this team have been uniformly positive, and I look forward to this team achieving significant progress in all of our efforts. I hope that all of our membership team takes an active role in helping us to achieve our goals. Please be involved and take the opportunity to serve our team.

Have a great Summer and be well,

Rex Lott
