Student responses for whether they have sought the help of a librarian are varied. Narratives from students present a wide range of personalities and competencies between those who may or may not choose to seek out assistance. The purpose of this paper is to explore how detailed transcriptions, transcribed with the Jefferson system of notation, can assist with the interpretation of student feelings about seeking out research assistance. This transcription and interpretation method will provide insight into how researchers play a role in the interview process and how their readers can be better informed of the narrative nuances that occur during an interview.
