Alan Scholl of Salt Lake City, an important member of the University of Utah's team to determine risk to the population living downwind of the Nevada Test Site, passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2005. Alan had a Master of Science degree in statistics from the University of Utah. He had been employed by the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, School of Medicine, at the University of Utah since 1999. In 2005, Alan was accepted to a doctoral program in scientific computing. He had completed one semester of course work toward that degree.

In 1999, Alan began working on the reconstruction of the Thyroid Cohort Study that had been conducted in the mid-1980s, and until the time of his passing, he was a critical member of the team to renovate that study.
