In the article, “A Comparison of Kinetic Photon Cell Survival Models” by L. Herr, T. Friedrich, M. Durante and M. Scholz (Radiat Res 2015; 184:494–508) (), one of the models used in the comparison is the “linear-quadratic” (LQ) model and passing reference is made to “A Molecular Theory of Cell Survival” which was the first publication (1973) on this LQ type of model using the “molecular theory”. The authors of the article are apparently unaware of the many subsequent publications on the molecular theory and I find it unfortunate that no references were made to the more relevant ones and that Herr et al. (0033-7587-185-4-438-a011) chose instead to concentrate on the linear-quadratic model for chromosome aberrations of Lea as the basis for their discussion, even though the article was concerned with models for cell survival.
