A monitoring system utilizing a pickup loop has been developed to observe the pulse-to-pulse output of an electron source which exploits the phenomenon of field emission. This source is currently being used for cellular radiobiological experiments and for dosimetry investigations under ultra high dose rate conditions. The output of the source provides a 3 nanosecond pulse of electrons whose average energy is 530 keV. The monitoring system has been calibrated against a Faraday cup and an intensity-measuring calorimeter. Computerized least squares analyses of the data show a linear correlation between the monitor and either the Faraday cup or the intensity calorimeter to within a standard deviation of about ±1%.
