In the joint polymerization of butadiene and methacrylonitrile, the bulk of the polymer consists of macromolecules, in which the two unit components correctly alternate, and the butadiene combines in its 1,4-position. Only much fewer macromolecules are encountered in which several molecules of butadiene consecutively intercombine in 1,4-positions.
