We report the presence of Cyperus brevifolioides Thieret & Delahoussaye (Kyllinga gracillima Miq.) growing spontaneously in two locations on Martha's Vineyard, a new record for Massachusetts. C. brevifolioides is a pantropical species introduced to the United States (Bryson et al. 1997); its presence has been reported in southern, south central, and mid-Atlantic states (Swearingen and Bargeron 2016). In New England it has been known previously only from a single county in southwestern Connecticut (Angelo and Boufford 2018), where it was collected at the Greenwich Audubon Nature Center (Bradley 1949). This species was assigned to the genus Kyllinga by Haines (2011) and Tucker (2002), but recent work does not support maintaining this segregate genus (Larridon et al. 2013).
