Harold Brotzman died July 9, 2020, in Springfield, Massachusetts, at 78. Harold, a resident of Williamstown, Massachusetts, was the son of Lee and Dorothy Wentzel Brotzman and was born in Harpursville, New York, on September 18, 1941. Harold is survived by his daughter, Kristine Brotzman of Seattle; his son, Keri Brotzman and his wife, Kate, of Bellingham, Washington; and his partner, Kristin Elliott of Chicopee.

He grew up in Harpursville and received his BS in environmental science and forestry at the State University of New York College of Forestry (part of Syracuse University), MS in botany and plant pathology at the University of Maine, and PhD in botany at the University of Iowa at Iowa City before completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri.
