The discovery of the New South Wales molluscan fauna is discussed, from the discoveries of Cook's voyage at Botany Bay, up to the present day. The roles of the following workers are discussed: George French Angas, James Cox, John Brazier, Thomas Whitelegge, Charles Hedley, Joyce Allan, Tom Iredale, Charles Laseron, Tom Garrard, Don McMichael, Winston Ponder, Bill Rudman and Ian Loch. The history and current status of the Australian Museum mollusc collection is briefly presented.
