New measures to cater for the conservation of fauna in State forests in Tasmania have recently been developed and are now being implemented. These include: (1) a set of new reserves to ensure protection of samples of all vegetation types present on Crown Land; (2) retention of wildlife habitat strips through production zones comprehensively sampling fauna habitats at a local level; (3) wildlife priority areas where particularly important species are highlighted and management practices changed to cater for their conservation; and (4) habitat tree clumps to provide for hollow-dependent species at a coupe level.
