More than 50 per cent of the frog fauna of New South Wales has been known for over a century, with significant collections from the western area of the state reported in a series of papers by J. J. Fletcher between 1890 and 1894. Of the 16 frog genera found In New South Wales, eight are represented in the western portion. Eight distinct patterns of distribution are recognizable within the state’s frog fauna. Only three species have distributions that are largely confined to western New South Wales. Currently recognized declines in frog populations Include only one species of the western portion, but Fletcher’s localities need to be revisited.
