From weakness to strength: the small-structured ownerships in the Lucerne forests complicate a future- and competitive-directed forest management. The cantonal forest policy analyzed the weaknesses of the system and created the basic framework requirements for a bundling of forest management and the timber industry. Due to the three projects Regional Organization (Regionale Organisation), Forest Wood (Waldholz) and Surplus Wood (Mehrwert Holz), restrictions are being eased on timber supply, placement and commercialization, which allows more flexible and competitive structures. As a result, the larger-scale management leads to lower production costs at the interface between the forest and timber industries, as well as for the promotion of wood.
