Launched in 2014 as the official journal of the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group, it is the mission of IJPT to provide a preferred venue for disseminating the most up-to-date information on the clinical, physical, and biological research in proton, light-ion, and heavy charged-particle therapy. Since its founding, IJPT has received articles by nearly 300 prominent radiation oncologists, physicists, and dosimetrists from 200 institutions around the world.

The National Association for Proton Therapy has named IJPT Editor-in-Chief Nancy P. Mendenhall, MD, FACR, FASTRO, and Associate Editor Steven J. Frank, MD, to a newly created physician advisory committee. The committee will provide advice on topics such as clinical research, patient education, and insurance reimbursement.
