Previous studies suggest that employment rates after spinal cord injury (SCI) are inversely related to age at injury but are positively related to years since injury. The current study investigated the relationships between these two components of aging (age at injury onset and years since injury) and self-reported barriers to employment. Both factors were related to an increase in barriers to employment, most of which were due to declining health. The largest number of barriers were reported by those with the oldest age at injury (45-54 years in this study) and those with the most years postinjury (30+ years).
