Sexual satisfaction is known to decrease in persons with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). SCI is also known to predictably alter sexual response. Recent research has shed light on exactly how sexual response is affected. Techniques are also now being tested to facilitate subjective sexual arousal and physiologic genital response in women with SCIs. This information, coupled with recent developments for improvement of sexual function in the able-bodied, should be utilized to develop new treatment methods to improve sexual satisfaction in persons with SCIs.
