A major goal of caring for children and adolescents with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) is to engender a satisfying and productive life for them as adults. Therefore, it is important to understand the long-term outcomes of adults who sustained their SCI as children and adolescents. In particular, it is necessary to identify factors that significantly impact important outcomes, such as employment, income, independent living, medical complications, and life satisfaction. Pediatric SCI programs need to focus habilitative and rehabilitative efforts to maximize long-term adult outcomes.
