Hip subluxation commonly occurs in children with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). Treatment is controversial. The purpose of this study is to report our experience with hip reconstructive surgery in children with SCI. This is a retrospective review of 13 children with SCI who underwent 21 procedures for hip subluxation or dislocation. Clinical, functional, and radiographic parameters were evaluated. All mean radiographic measurements improved at follow-up. Most patients noted little change in range of motion or sitting posture. No statistical significance was established between data pre- and post-hip surgery Functional Independence Measure (FIM) scores, although all categories showed improvement in scores. Satisfaction was high.
