Cervical spinal cord injury, tetraplegia, accounts for just over half of all traumatic spinal cord injuries. Early rehabilitation prevents secondary complications of spinal cord injury. An interdisciplinary team is essential in providing simultaneous care in medical management, equipment identification, family and patient education, and mobility and self-care training. Identification of the best bowel and bladder management, best pain management, prognosis for ambulation, and risk of autonomic dysreflexia must be done early as lengths of stay continue to decrease.
