A model is proposed for the influence of the rim and the belt on load carrying in tires. It consists of an infinitely long, inflated, thin‐walled tube whose cross‐sectional geometry is constrained by two rigid plates. The model structure is subjected to a vertical load, a transverse load, and a rotational moment. A general set of equations is derived in terms of one inflation and two geometric parameters. Methods of numerical solution are given which hold whether forces or deflections are the independent variables. Numerical results are given for the case of slow motions and deflections specified.
