Similarity of measurements reported for Bachman's (1837) holotype of S. fimbripes, the ANSP “type,” and USNM 84556 relative to Pennsylvania species of shrews. The measurement index is calculated in Table 2. The “similarity score” for a measurement within two SDs of the mean for a species is calculated as 2/index; the score for a measurement beyond two SDs, but within the range of values for the species is calculated as 1/index. Similarity scores were summed and the proportion of the total score used to evaluate the overall similarity of each purported type to each species.
