Massasauga encounters (Nindiv) were set as a function of the fixed-effects mean; Life-zone size (LZ cm), snow height (cm), LZ temperature buffering function (TBUFF), and LZ aerobic quality (GWDO). Nindiv includes all encountered snakes per year plus those presumed present because of their age estimates from future encounters.
