The samples were collected from wildlife in Gifu Prefecture and Mie Prefecture, located in central Japan. The two prefectures provide habitats for various wildlife species. The animals were hunted with traps by authorized hunters between June 2016 and October 2018. The study sites were selected according to the population density of wildlife, with a focus on mammals as potential reservoir hosts in proximity to the human environment. The dark shaded portion of the map represents the location of wildlife species from which samples were used.
