Hanson described and named more than 200 subspecific taxa in six species in this complex. Both volumes were published posthumously by B. W. Anderson, who also contributed extensively to the second volume, essentially completing it for his friend and colleague Hanson. Now we have a volume that extends and justifies Hanson's work and presents Anderson's own independent studies of these geese.
