Founded in 1873, the Nuttall Ornithological Club is the oldest ornithological society in America and is the progenitor to the American Ornithologists Union, recently recast as the American Ornithological Society. The Nuttall Club was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and remains based there today. Nuttall is an organization dominated by amateurs but known to publish important scientific monographs and histories.
