Mary Bomberger Brown will be remembered for her contributions to humankind as an ornithologist, editor, avid birder, teacher, mentor, and friend. She passed away from complications after a long battle with cancer. Mary received all of her degrees in her home state of Nebraska: a BS with distinction in Biological Sciences in 1979 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an MS in Biological Sciences in 1982, and a PhD in Applied Ecology in 2011. She authored 4 books, including Coloniality in the Cliff Swallow: The Effect of Group Size on Social Behavior, a citation classic that resulted from her work with Charles Brown during a period of over 30 years in western Nebraska.
